Residents and retailers have spotted notices in Sydenham Road stating that soon you will have to pay to park in the high street.
The plan is to turn the parking bays - that are currently free the first 40 minutes into paid-for spaces. The cost will be at £1 for 30 minutes only payable via a smartphone. The plan is due to start on March 31st and will be borough-wide. Locally this will affect Sydenham Road, Sydenham Station Approach, Kirkdale, Lower Sydenham down to Bell Green and many side roads.
We strongly object to this plan as it will have a devastating effect. We are asking residents to write to Brenda Dacres, the Mayor of Lewisham at the following email address:
brenda.dacres@lewisham.gov.uk
We are fully aware that Lewisham Borough like all UK local authorities are suffering financially at the moment. They desperately need more cash. But undermining our high streets is not how to go about it.

Sydenham
Forest Hill
Although the council across the borough has cut financial support for assemblies, some wards will continue to have them including Sydenham and Perry Vale. Forest Hill is undecided but we will keep you posted here.

Bell Green Neighbourhood Public Meeting
Saturday 29th March
11am - 1pm
Livesey Memorial Hall
Perry Hill, SE6 4HD.

This public meeting is organised by the Bell Green Forum, and is open to local residents, businesses, and people who use Bell Green for shopping, schools, doctors, nurseries, or public transport. Lewisham officers from Planning, Highways and other departments have been invited to present their plans for the current redevelopments at Bell Green. These include:
Barratt London at the old gasholders site. Work progressing despite the fact that planning permission has not yet been formally granted, almost six months since the Strategic Planning Committee meeting.
Livesey Memorial Hall site and loss of sports provision.
Marks and Spencers to share the Currys site.
Highways and TfL working on pedestrian and active travel safety around the Bell Green gyratory system.
Concerns about vital infrastructure needing upgrading, particularly the electricity grid, groundwater pumping system that processes the gasworks contamination, and the lack of health provision for the new homes.
Information from our new partners at the national campaign group Gasworks Communities United, and about the campaign for Zane's Law, which aims to protect residents of new developments to be built on landfill sites such as old gasworks.
